Further Information about this Event

This year's Leon Jessel Memorial Challenge will take place today at Walsall College's Green Lane Campus.

The annual challenge is named after the late Leon Jessel, former member of the Walsall Chamber of Commerce who had been extremely keen on promoting science and engineering to young people. It is organised through the Walsall Education and Business Partnership.

On Tuesday 7th December, Walsall College’s Green Lane campus plays host to an engineering competition where students complete a design and manufacturing challenge. The activity this year is a structural challenge using “lean manufacturing” principles. The teams will be assessed on their planning for the project; explaining and understanding of how a structure is designed, team work, overall attitude and finally the quality of the final structure.

Approximately 50 students from St Francis of Assisi Catholic Technology College, Brownhills Community Technology College, Pool Hayes Community School, Joseph Leckie Community Technology College and Frank F Harrison Engineering College are expected to take part.

Prizes are supplied and presented by the Walsall Chamber of Commerce. The overall winning team will receive the Leon Jessel Memorial Trophy with £150 for their school and £25 gift vouchers for each team member.
