Educational visits.
- WolverhamptonUniversity – “Psychology at the Uni Open days.”
AS students are invited to come along to the University of Wolverhampton to experience current research; undertaken by students and lecturers. Students are able to meet professionals in the field, ask questions and actively experience research. Past visits have included:
“Techies team” – Technical experts were able to demonstrate the latest advances in computer aided learning.
“Saving the Planet with Psychology” – Prof. Manktelow described the kinds of thinking that we do when we decide whether to save or spend, act selfishly or socially. If we make wrong choices, everyone can suffer.

“Learning from the Simpson’s” – Recent research has found that learners can identify with Simpson animated characters and this can promote better retention and learning.

“Psychology question time”
Students are able to present questions to a panel of experts.
“Lie detector test” Students were able to experience the use of lie detectors and assess its strengths and limitations.
- Insight conferences – Stourbridge town hall (November)
In November each year students have the opportunity to attend an Insight conference focusing on crime. This is suitable for sixth form students studying Psychology, Sociology, Law and Forensics. This is a popular conference and the cost to students is around £18.00 (including travel costs.)
In 2007, the Keynote speaker was Nick Yarris who was exonerated after 8,057 days on Death Row - he was also the first prisoner on death row to use DNA science developed in the UK to gain his exoneration. Nick talked about his life and experiences. This was an excellent opportunity for students to hear Nick speak about his life and have questions answered, regarding the American Penal System and the Death Penalty.
Students will also hear from professional in the field discussing the following:
