During this year, your English teachers will be preparing you for your SATs; these take place on 4th and 5th May. It is very important that you copy up any work missed (because of absence, school trips etc.), check that you understand it and see your English teacher if you have any doubts. In addition, you can find help for revision for the English Reading Paper, the Writing Papers and the Shakespare paper; this can currently be found on the Public Shared Area but will move to the website in future (locate it through Public Shared Area/English/KS3).
The curriculum during this year will be something like this:
| Autumn Term 1 | The study of narrative: either short stories or a shorter,modern novel.Examples of texts include: Stone Cold by Robert Swindells, Jake's Tower or Witch Child by Celia Rees. Pupils will learn how to write to analyse, review and comment and to explore, imagine and entertain whilst also studying the writer's techniques. | |||||
| Autumn Term 2 | A brief study of WW1 poetry (up to and including November 11th). Pupils produce a comparative essay after studying a range of poetry, including "The Soldier" by Rupert Brooke and "Anthem for Doomed Youth" by Wilfred Owen

Pupils study ways of improving writing and learn how to write to inform, explain and describe

| Spring term 1 | Pupils study extracts of texts in groups, learning how to respond to these in a SATs examination

Pupils also begin their study of Shakespeare's The Tempest in readiness for the SATs Shakespeare paper.

| Summer term 1 | Revision of SATs skills (to the end of April) | A short novel (not previously studied at KS3)with a focus on either other cultures or stereotyping, e.g. Bend it like Beckham, Billy Elliot, Stone Cold | ||||
| Summer term 2 | Pupils begin their studies for G.C.S.E.: this involves an introduction to Poetry from Other Cultures and will involve the production of an essay analysing and comparing 2 poems,a short piece of original writing based on one of the poems and a speaking and listening assessment.All 3 assessments may count towards pupils' G.C.S.E. English coursework marks. | |||||
