Bhangra Master Class
Bhangra Master Class!!
In March 2007, Year 9 pupils were all involved in a Bhangra workshop as part of their dance scheme of work. Pupils had an exciting session in which they were taught a range of Bhangra styles, from traditional moves to more update hip hop styles. Pupils were able to experience playing the Dohl drum and were involved in wearing traditional Bhangra costumes. This was a very beneficial workshop which we hope to repeat next year.

On Friday 15th June a group of year 8 pupils attended a gifted and talented Bhangra master class which was hosted at Shire Oak Science College. Pupils were taught about the history and culture of Bhangra dancing and learnt many exciting routines. Bhangra is a lively dance style originating from the Northern Indian state of Punjab; it was a great aerobic workout and tons of fun for the pupils and staff. Megan Jordan had the privilege of being dressed in a traditional Bhangra outfit and looked the part when performing the final piece. It was a very enjoyable and worthwhile class for the girls who thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
