Black Country Games
Black CountryYouth Games 2007
This year’s Black Country Youth Games was held on Friday 29th June at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton. Young people from the four Black Country boroughs i.e. Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton competed in a number of sporting events for the title. The Games, which has been organised by the Black Country Sports Partnership, involves local authorities, schools, sports clubs, coaches and volunteers working together to drive the action needed to increase participation in sport and physical activity by people in the Black Country.

St Francis took two teams to represent Walsall. The judo team had been carefully selected from keen participants to weekly club members; Olivia Anderson, Mei Tym Pang, Isabelle Clews, Shannon Bernes-Jones, Liam Holder, Steven Standon and Matthew Mills. The badminton team were the winners of the Walsall schools badminton competition which was held several months ago; Adam Smyth, Scott Bryson, Jordan Steel, Ryan Brough, Anna Cooke, Tayler Lee, Maria Jolly and Rachel Bostock.

It was a very successful and memorable day as Walsall won the title of ‘Black Country Youth Games Overall Winners’ and also the ‘Fair Play’ Award. The St Francis representatives had a fantastic day and were a real credit to the school. The badminton team came third in the group and an amazing Walsall win from the Judo team whose fights were outstanding. A special mention to Shannon Bernes-Jones, Mei Tym-Pang and Liam Holder who won all of their fights and won a gold medal!!!
