Please read on for the arrangements that will be put in place if the school has to be closed at short notice due to bad weather, etc.
Arrangements in case of school closure
I am writing to you today as snow is forecast in the area in the near future and I wanted you to be aware of the arrangements that are in place in case the school has to be closed at short notice.
The decision to close the school is one that is not taken lightly, involves approval from the Chair of the Governors and is based on the safety and welfare of both students and staff, many of whom have to travel a distance to get to school.
If the school is closed parents/carers will be notified in the following ways:
- By text to the “1st contact” mobile telephone number we have from you. (If you have changed your numbers recently please telephone the school immediately and inform the office staff who will update your information.)
- A message in the ‘News’ section of the school website - www.stfrancis.cc
- Announcements on the following radio stations: Beacon FM, BBC Radio WM and BRMB or through their websites.
With regards to school work for your son/daughter on occasions of closure, most KS3 students will have an ISA to work on and all students will have their regular homework. KS4 and Sixth Form students will have homework tasks and independent work towards their exams. Work may also be available through the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) on the school website or through emails from their teachers.

THE JANUARY EXAM PERIOD STARTS ON TUESDAY, 10TH JANUARY. IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE WEATHER, THE EXAMINATION ARRANGEMENTS WILL BE POSTED ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE WEBSITE.
IF YOU LOOK AT THE RADIO WEBSITES YOU ARE ASKED TO TYPE IN THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL. YOU THEN HAVE TO CLICK ON THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL AND IT WILL TELL YOU IF THE SCHOOL IS CLOSED. DO NOT PRESUME THAT BECAUSE THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL APPEARS THE SCHOOL IS CLOSED.
