Assessment

Assessment, in all its forms, is a fundamental part of our whole school teaching and learning strategy. All students have regular opportunities to be assessed and demonstrate what they have understood, learned, can recall and apply.
Assessment will take the form of, for example:
• questioning in the classroom, where answers might be given orally or via the use of mini whiteboards.
• formal written assessments whether that be a shorter task or a mock examination.
In each case, outcomes to assessment will dictate next steps for individuals or groups and where gaps in knowledge have become evident tasks will be undertaken, guided by the teacher, to close those.
In years 7, 8 and 9 all students take common, written, assessments. Results from these are centrally recorded and it is these that form the basis of reporting to parents. In most subjects there are multiple common assessments throughout the school year.
In years 10 to 13 any assessment forms part of the information used to guide teachers in forming opinions on predicted grades. Results of mock examinations will form most of that information although predicted grades are not formed solely from these. These predictions form the basis of reporting to parents.
